Tivoli, also known as Tivoli Gardens, is a world-famous amusement park in the heart of Copenhagen. Georg Carstensen opened Tivoli in 1843, based on inspiration from abroad, and the amusement park was an instant success.
Having maintained its charm, Tivoli today appeals to a very broad audience. It is the most visited attraction in Denmark, and in 2018 it celebrates its 175-year anniversary. Throughout its long history, Tivoli has adjusted its offers, rides and aesthetics, but it has never compromised on its special atmosphere. This way, it has remained relevant for 175 years – also in an international perspective. For instance, Walt Disney was inspired by Tivoli when he laid the foundation for Disneyland in California. Tivoli attracts tourists from all over the world, and some 30% of its 4.6m annual visitors are tourists.
